Random question on how mobo burning in makes any sense at all...

So, I just picked up an Evga sli 939 mobo with the 7800GT, and was attempting to oc my 3700+ san diego earlier this evening. After trying every setting under the sun, I could not get this thing stable above 225mhz fsb, regardless of the mem divider or the ht run.... it was definitely the mobo. So, a few hours later I decide to play with clockgen, without changing any settings, Iget an extra 5, and reach 230. Now, a few hours later, I do it again, get another 5. Keep in mind these were rebooting my machine a few hours ago, and now they are prime testing for an hour (I'm using the machine right now so I can't comment how long they are stable for).

So, is this typical with newer mobos? I've overclocked before and never seen a bum mobo improve, I've definitely seen bad chips improve though... it just struck me as weird.
