Random question - Keyboard compatibility?

Just wondering, is there such thing as keyboard compatibiilty among motherboards. I gave my old epox 8k7a to my friend, and for some reason keyboards on it have been acting weird. My cheap memorex ps2 works, while my old compaq and his microsoft elite both don't work, however his regular microsoft one does.

Some boards could be more sensitive to timing or contact bounce.

PS/2 keyboards should be compatible with all motherboards that have PS/2 keyboard ports (and motherboards that have an AT style keyboard port as well, with an adapter). This is a long shot, but have you tried a BIOS update?
