Hey Guys,

First post, last account somehow dissappeared. I'm having a very annoying problem with my computer. It's a intel-based Abit IP35-e board using a E8400. It has been stable for about six months until suddenly I attempted to turn it on this morning and it began giving me trouble. Ranging from 4 seconds to 5 minutes, the computer will start and even get into normal operation (playing games, internet) until it very abruptly powers off. It's a very sudden power off. I tried rebooting many times, setting the bios to its default state, and even reset the CMOS. I then tried switching the power supply. Same problem.

Is this a dead board? I have to admit it was mildly overclocked at the time but nothing to serious. The temps were good, usually around 35-40 C. Any suggestions?

I would take out the major compenents (video card, RAM, and any other PCI devices) and then put them back in and make sure they are seated well. Also clean out the inside of the case and devices for any dust and debris.

I'll try that, although it's a bit puzzling how a computer standing completely still could be slightly unseated to turn it off and then seated again to let it boot. I'll see what I can do. Every time I do something like this it ends up taking hours.

Well you could try just cleaning everything out with compressed air first. That wouldn't take more than 15minutes.

The first thing that I would do is try a new power supply. This is textbook behavior for a failing PS.

Is the PSU full of dust? I'd try and blow it out with some compressed air first before replacing it. Worth a shot as a quick fix.
