Random... power failures?

Hey. Twice in the last hour, my monitor randomly went blank, my tower looked (possibly) as if it were rebooting (HD light on, but no physical booting, I think). The monitor didn't receive a signal.

Both times I was watching a video with my video player. Don't know if that has anything to do with it. Lights didn't flicker or anything. I've got an Energizer battery backup, but it's pretty much just an expensive surge protector--if you pull the plug the machine automatically dies, then reboots while the "your power is running out" lights and beeps.

Anyway, any idea how this coudl be happening? Is a part going bad? I'm not in a place where I can fix it... 😕

Well, if this is a recent problem, and you had no such problem before using the same hardware configuration, I am guessing that something might be awry with your motherboard, it might not be supplying enough juice to your video card.

If you put in new hardware, then the PSU might not have power to power your entire system.

And, it might also be a software problem, maybe some conflict with your video card drivers with a application or conflict with previous version of the drivers.

If you are able to boot into windows, and have no problems, then the screen goes blank, I'm more or less willing to bet it is a driver conflict and/or driver corruption.

When that happens do you get sund looping? If so prob an IRQ conflict or RAM conflict. If youre running an Nforce 2 and have a creative product they have a lot of known issues so move em around in the PCI slots.
List M/B RAM specs/ PSU specs/ Video And Sound IRQ
Good Luck
