My friend is telling me that she's been getting random nose bleeds as of late..three times today she said. I tried looking for sutff online about it..but couldn't find anything. Any ideas what may be causing it?

tell her to go see a doctor. she could have a blood vessel that is very close to the surface inside her nostril that is getting basically punctured or something. i forget what the word for that is, but they basically cauterize it.

First of all, are you sure it's "her" nose?

Second, tell "her" to see a doctor.

Has there been a recent change in the weather? Perhaps with fall setting in and the wind, its making the inside of her nose drier and making the skin more prone to break? My mom always coated a que-tip with vasaline and rubbed it in my nose when I was a kid. Seemed to help...

tell her to lay off the coke... it worked for me...

I've had a seasonal nosebleed since I was 16 :( doctor says it's not a big deal and it happens to everyone... I have mild allergies and the dryness of winter really dries out my nose...

The only reason to cauterize is if you lose a lot of blood or it doesn't stop after a couple of minutes....

or if, like me, it is allergy season so the opening can't close up because you sneeze too often.

sorry but I'm still stuck on tryintgto figure out what a random nose is. Most people have just one nose and it's pretty stationary and permament. Imagine if suddenly you grew a nose on your arm, or God forbid on your butt or under your arm pit. Hay Mister, does your ramdom nose bleed. Yea, but it's a random sort of thing. Oh OK.

Jeez, what if your nose suddenly appeared on your fist as just as you slugged something like maybe Sluggo. Ouch Hold your nose and say ouch a few times. Sounds something like a cross between a Frenchman and a Polka. MAAAAAAAAN this is some good sh!t.

I have the same problem, it sucks :(

It's caused by the walls of your nose getting too dry, and thus the small blood vessels in there are prone to crack and bleed.

Try saline nasal spray. You can pick up a little bottle for a few bucks at wal-mart/eckerds.

She can use a nasal spray decongestant to stop the bleeding more quickly... We use it by the case in our ER.

She should have some labwork done to make sure she has enough platelets, just in case...

Your friend should see her doctor for a proper diagnosis - and possible recommendation of a specialist, if required. I had some nosebleed problems a few years back. At the time, I was suffering from undiagnosed high blood pressure and for me, this was one of the symptoms that I experienced. However, since bringing it under control, I haven't had another nosebleed since.

She's been abducted by aliens. She has a small metallic object lodged in her nasal cavity. However, if she has it removed, she has a very strong likelihood of developing cancer.

When I was at school I used to get nosebleeds all the time, especially during the hayfever season. I had my nose cauterised when I was 15 and havent had a proper nosebleed since, which is over 9 years.
