I've been experiencing random lockups where first the system would be unresponsive for a few seconds except for the mouse pointer, then after a beep from the case speaker a complete lockup. I had considerable difficulty reproducing the problem but finally found it. It was the forceware driver (v81.98). Although the same problem existed before I installed 81.98 so it seem to affect at least two but probably more versions of the driver. I'm currently running Xtreme G 75.90a drivers which despite the lower version number has not only solved my stability problems but games seem smoother.
Anyone experiencing random lockups and running similar hardware as below might want to find these drivers and give them a try.
