Random Lockups during boot : (

I'm having a problem with my PC thats driving me insane.

My PC is locking up (hard lockup, no activity whatsoever) at seemingly random times during the boot process. Sometimes it locks up during the post, sometimes it locks up at the XP splash screen, and sometimes it locks up as the utilities in the windows system tray are loading (like antivirus & whatnot)

This only occurs during boot, especially if I try to reboot. If I shut the power off completely and let the PC sit for 10-15 minutes then it usually boots up with no problem and I can leave it powered on for up to 2 weeks until I have to install some critical update or reboot for some other reason.

I'm guessing my motherboard is dying....Only it's hard to tell when there are no error codes.

I've pretty much ruled out ram by pulling out a stick and replacing it.

I have an asus A7n8x with an athlon XP2500.

I don't overclock or anything so I shouldn't have any problems there.

Should I just replace the motherboard? Opinions?

might be your hard drive or power supply

Maybe your hard drive just gives up the go after being on for a little bit

Maybe your power supply has a dip in voltage for just a tiny bit.

Do you think if it were my power supply like you mentioned, that I could test out that theory by disconnecting power from one of my HD's and my DVD Burner to reduce the stress on the powersupply and then see if it boots or would that be a waste of time?

Only way is to try a new power supply. Even then your data might've been FUBARed cause of the lack of power so it might not help.
