Random internet outages

This issue is driving us insane. I say "us" as in my other 2 room mates. Were all sharing the same internet though a D-Link router dishing out wireless internet to our laptops. All our laptops have win7 OS installed. We tried, updating the firmware on the router itself, moving the router to different parts of the apt, opening the router and cleaning it and some others attempts to fix this issue I cant remember off the top of my head.

The issue at hand here, is that the internet connection seems to randomly disconnect, yet the network connection stays up. At first I thought that between the 3 of us, we were over loading the hell out the router. but that isn't the case. Another possibility was that we were receiving interference from other wireless networks, so we changed the channel on our network. that didn't do nothing. We also bought an expensive dual band n-router and still had the same issue.

I couldn't find much of anything. in terms of answers, on google. In fact, it seems like its a common problem. So im here posting as a last resort.

My old Linksys WRT54GS used to do this randomly as well. The only thing that fixed it was a hard factory reset. Talk about frustrating. It even did it running DDWRT and other firmware. I grew tired of it and ran over it with my truck after replacing it with an Airport Extreme. No issues since.
