Random internet connection problem.........

Here's the deal, i have a cable modem and never have had a problem with my connection until now. It seems that once in a while my connection will just go dead and i can't access the net. If i restart the machine all is well again and i can connect. This happens every now and then and started about a week ago and i know it's not my service provider. I'm using Windows ME with IE 6 but when it goes down nothing can access the net. I checked winipcfg and everything looks good and i even reinstalled Zone Alarm 2.6 Pro again just to be safe along with IE 6.

Also, i play Unreal Tournament online and since this problem started i cannot fully load the online server list without my connection going down the tubes.

Any ideas? Garbage like this drives me nuts. I really don't feel like wiping the drive and reinstalling Windows since everything else works fine. Is there a system file or driver that is corrupted?

Thanks.

Who's your provider?

In the past week, I have been having my Time Warner cable connection just stall sometimes. I'm going through a 3Com router and it seems to come back if I just reset the router.

My friend who lives a few blocks away has started having the same thing too. He's on a Di-704 router.

Optimum Online in Long island New York is the service provider. I tend to think it's a software problem because it seems that Unreal Tournament brings it on for some reason and it never used to. By the way i'm using a 3Com cable modem, the one that looks like a shark fin with three big green lights on the front. Thanks.
