i'm running a C2D on a biostar P43 mobo, 2gb mem, 8800gt. up until recently it had four sata drives and one IDE (plus dvd burner).

the IDE drive was a 40gb samsung that i've been using as an OS/small apps drive for quite some time. i've since upgraded numerous times (to 100gb, 250gb, 500gb, and 750gb) and kept the old drives.

last week i decided to pull that drive, finally, as it's basically just taking up space in my case. i cloned that drive to a partition on the 100gb sata, shut her down and pulled the IDE drive. worked flawlessly, new partition assumed the old C drive letter. had to edit my boot.ini, which is held on yet another drive- how or why windows would put startup files one of my data drives, i do not know.

anyway, this whole thing worked fine until i turned my PC today and got nothing. OS wouldn't load. i look in the bios, and it's trying to boot from a different drive. i change it back to the old one...nothing. i try every drive, including the actual OS drive...nothing. i either get nothing or 'ntldr missing'.

booting into repair mode does nothing. using bootcfg just gives me errors and actually trying to install windows onto another partition of the same drive also fails- it tells me it has no MBR and can't continue, even though i just generated a new one. all the files are there in windows, and it passes chkdsk.

i'm not sure what to do. i have the old IDE drive back in for the moment, but i'm wondering if the other drive just needs to get chucked.
