Ok so I recently got a new computer and it runs fine and all but when I leave it on for an extended period of time, usually over 6-7 hours, when downloading something or just to leave it on it seams like it always freezes on me for no reason. My old computer did the same thing, but then again I did take the HD and video card out of that to put in the new one.

I think you sorta answered your own question. Did you do a fresh install on the new system with the old HD?

Udate your drivers. Reinstall windows if necessary.

Drivers to update:
Graphics drivers
Motherboard Chipset Drivers
Hardware drivers

Use mem check to check out your memory

If all else fails consult a professional.

I updated all drivers I could possibly think to update and its still freezing on me. Im begining to think its my hard drive.

If anyone has some free time I could use a good link to nice reasonably priced, 80 gig or so, hard drive. Bigger then that would work also.

Look through here.
That said, before you run off and get a new hard drive, run memtest overnight. If it passes with zero errors, you know it's not the RAM (which is a common cause of flakey computer/crashing). This will also strengthen your hypothesis that it's the hard drive. If it fails, it could be due to a number of issues, but probably either a bad mobo, bad RAM, or overheating.

Well my motherboard, cpu and memory are about 3 weeks old.

I've had the HD for prolly about a year now. But I suppose I can try the memtest.

if you use a burning program like Nero, there should be an option for "burn image". Select the .iso file, and burn.

Yea Im using Nero Express, which has an option for "Disc image or saved project" which I've tried but it wont let me select the file. It just keeps telling me to open. No like add or anything like that.

But when I used the bootable disc option it will let me just add the file and burn it, but im not sure if it works like that. And to be exact I don't need to unzip the file I downloaded? Just select it and burn?

Ok I ran Memtest for about 8 hours while I was asleep. No errors at all.

So I think its my hard drive. Because back when I was using my 20 gig I never had a problem with freezing aftter it being on for more then 8 hours, I could like it on for a few days and it would still be going. I don't suppose there's any hard drives tests like this memtest?

If not I could use a good new hard drive, any help in giving me some ideas on whats good HD wise I'd greatly appreciate it.

check the Hot Deals forum. Never spend more than $.50/gig for a hard drive :) And never buy a 5400RPM drive (duh).

Seagate makes pretty good 7200RPM drives.

For example...you might be able to find a better deal than that, though.
