OK,

Sometimes in XP the computer freezes and the only way out is a power cycle. Anyone know what could be causing this. I remember on different system when I instaleld netscape 6.2 on XP, sometimes surfing certain website would cause the very same type of lockup both on Netscape and IE. On this system however I don't have netscape 6.2. In addition, it happens randomly even if I'm not surifng the web. Nothing gets written to the event logs because I guess it doesn't have a chance to when it freezes. I think it's realeted to the NIC or the linksys router, from my experience network related stuff always cause freezes or lockups that you have to power cycle out of. I have the latest drivers for the NIC (Intell pro 10/100+) and the laster firmware on the linksys. Any ideas?

I had a similar problem of random lock-ups using WinXP Pro. My system is an AMD TB 1.4 with an
ASUS A7A266 motherboard. After trying every possible fix, I determined that the problem was with the
memory. I was using 2 sticks of 256MB no-name DDR RAM. After removing one stick, the system has run
rock steady over the past week. I do not know if this situation applies to you but it can't hurt to try it out.

Sounds like a memory problem. I benched a system with some similar stats/settings and it took me nearly 3 hours to find out whats wrong...

I have had the same problem running with an Asus A7A mobo. The problem was not limited to XP though. I finally figured out that it is a problem with the Asus mobo. I had to get the mobo rev # 1.1 with the 1009 bios. Since then everything has been running fine. I now have two 256mb sticks of Samsung ddr installed.

Thanks, I'm running some compaq memory in my Asus p3b-f. I know, I know, but when the memory is free I can't complain. IS there a way to test my memory? I have a few I could swap with them I suppose and try that out.
