No kidding. You want to reapply thermal paste before you kill the thing. You should definitely not be overclocking or overdriving anything right now.

Succinct and to the point!
Heat....is the ultimate enemy!!!!! Forget, this level of heat.

(One reason I obsess about my temps.)

I do not seem to understand well.

I just ran OCCT GPU error checking for 8 hours and 22 minutes. CPU was at 77c for the last hour, 70c to 74c from after the first hour to the 7th, and 75c before the first hour all running at the stock max frequency of 4.2Ghz.

I put it in OC mode, but did not overclock it. The only thing raised is the dGPU's Memory by 50Mhz. The RAM sticks are 1866Mhz modules, but they are at 1600.

Interestingly, I haven't froze since the day I posted.
EDIT: Other than when I tried making my sticks run at 1866, and the freezes where on the BIOS and also had problems booting, it wouldn't boot up.

This is totally right. If you're having strange issues with your PC then set your BIOS settings to its default optimal settings not with OC settings.

Alright, BIOS freezing was possibly about the changed settings. Put the CPU on "Manual" which lowered the "Max frequency" to 3.8Ghz, from 4.2Ghz. I have no idea why, since it is a stock "Turbo" 4.2Ghz CPU.

Left the BIOS running for 30 minutes, CPU temps went to 82c at the last 3 minutes, was at the 80c's, for like 5 minutes before that and from start to there, very slowly getting to 79c, it spent a long time at 79c. BIOS didnt freeze on those 30ish minutes.

MisterLilBig.....what reduces me to , is....you keep focusing on the initial SYMPTOM: the freezing....and not that parts of yr computer are a mouseclick away from melting like silver solder under an acetylene torch.

WHY would you continue to let the health, if not the survival of this machine remain in harm's way????

Because other than the freezing, that, the temps, seems normal to me.

What I am saying is that, those temperatures and the fan noise or lack of, has always been the same. I'll move a front fan to the back as an exhaust and see how that affects temps tomorrow.

Or, how should fans on my case be? I am using a BitFenix Ghost case at the moment. Also have a Silverstone Sugo 10 that I can use.

At the moment, all I use is the 2 case fans and both at the front.

Case fans are not going to fix your problem. You could shave a couple degrees if you had a bad confirmation before. Your CPU is a good 10 degrees C too hot IMO. You can post over in CPUs and Overclocking if you doubt this.

Unfortunately, if you are unwilling to do this, there is not much more I can do to help you here.

I am not unwilling, I'm trying to understand it all. This is my first built PC.

Would a CM Hyper 212 Evo, like yours and an extra BladeMaster fan, work on my PC case? Also going for Tuniq-TX4 thermal compound. Does this work on an FM2 socket well?

Are these good choices? Or should I go with something more expensive? Like a Corsair water cooling set up? Like the Hydro H100i. Or an H80i which would be more portable?

I do not mind spending on something that I could use on a future set up also.

This is my case : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811345019

EDIT: I might need more fan connectors. Not sure if I'm at my MOBO's limit. How do I improve on that?

That is a nice case. I am really wanting to go with the sleek look on my next build.

As for a cooler. you can't (or at least couldn't when I bought it) find a better cooler for the money. If will fit just about every socket, including the FM2.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835103099

Now, if you want to go ahead and buy a new cooler that's fine, but do you have any extra thermal grease around? If so, you may not have to, but of course it wouldn't really hurt anything if you did.

Personally I don't like a lot of fans. As long as I have a fan or two that are the largest (and quietest) that will fit in the space provided, I am happy.

I remember building a 1 GHz Athlon system and having 80 mm fans blazing to keep it cool. Man it was loud! Glad those days are over. Of course, being a bit older has something to do with that as well :)

I have no thermal compound, the part came with some already on it when I built it.

Thinking of going for the H80i and putting it on the rear and getting two 140mm fans on the top. Or just the Hyper 212 Evo and call it a day?

Would having all fans as Intake, pushing air In, be better than having more exhausts?

4 Intakes, Two at top, Two at front and one exhaust at the rear?

Or 3 exhaust, One rear and Two top, and just the two front as intakes?

For colder and less dust, that would be my goal.

If you stay on air, you want an intake fan, or the cpu fan will just pull air from every nook and cranny in the case, creating dust. On the other hand, you still want more exhaust than intake, so that the hot air does't just sit in the case.

The hot air from the HSF needs a place to go. Logically, that would be up. since you don't have a power supply up there, you will want an exhaust fan above it. Doesn't have to be loud, just enoght to get the air in the right direction. This does't mean that you shouldn't keep a light rear fan.

Since your power supply is on the bottom, you want to make sure it isn't confusing things. The intake fan should br pullung air up from below the case, not pulling down, from inside the case, which would be pulling the air in the opposite direction you want it to go.

Some of the lower end corsairs can be quite noisy, so you want to watch out for that. If you buy something new, you are going to get thermal compound with it, however I would still get some arctic silver handy, as I think it does a grear job.

This depends in the ear but I think 45 db from the AT graph you linked is pretty loud. At leat all the time.

Let me ask you something I neglected earlier. What fan connection on the board are you using and have you asjusted any fan settings in the BIOS/software?

Hmm, alright. I'll have to check what DBa's are my fans to get a more accurate idea of noise.

I use CPU_Fan1(For the stock CPU cooler) and CPU_Fan2(one of the front fans) and there's a CHA_Fan1(the other front fan) that's also being used. I see a PWR Fan1 connector which is not being used. That's all I see. EDIT: No, I havent touched Fan settings, don't think I have seen any. Just the dGPU's one and I have it on "Manual" at 100%, seems to run better than "Auto", it never even reaches 50% fan speed and gets much hotter in "Auto".

EDIT2: My PSU is getting air from the bottom of the case and pushes it to the rear, not back inside.

Question, should my RAM be in A1 and B1? Cause I just noticed that I have them on A2 and B2.

Your board should fine with either RAN setting for dual channel operation.

Im running OCCT GPU error checking again and with the WildStar log in screen on with the side panel of the case off.

Current temps from CPUTIN is at 57c and TMPIN0(dGPU?) is at 64c.

I noticed that the front fans really dont bring much air in, at all. Barely noticeable even an inch or two inside the case.

EDIT: Its been running over an hour, CPU temps are struggling to get to 59c and GPU has been at 64c to 65c. And it seems the CPU has been running constantly at 3.8Ghz.

EDIT2: Closed the case back up, temps rose. Let's see how this goes. After 30 minutes its running at 69c on the CPU and 74c on the dGPU. Cant monitor anymore for today.

You guys think all the other programs are giving the right temps?

....You guys think all the other programs are giving the right temps?

Given what I have heard about AMD chips and chipsets, it's luck of the draw. I have been on Itel since the Intel let the P4 chipsets support something other than RDRAM, so I sent out a question to see just how many were seeing this problem (the old AMD in my server doesn't have a problem).

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2336126

But it does seem that if the temp is off, it is WAY off (eg 180, 12, etc) so must likelyly your numbers are correct.

You do bring up an interesting thing here. If you temps are lower with the side panel off than they are with the side panel on, you have an airflow issue.

Do you know what size the fans are in your case?

On a side note, I personally think we have nailed down the issue to a cooling problem. If you are interested in more opinions on how to achieve this, (and I surely don't mean I am being bugged by the conversation between the two of us here), you can open another thread in Cases and Cooling. Just tell them your specs, your temps, and ask them how (and if your need) to improve your numbers.

An airflow issue, that's what I thought after yesterdays test.

I'm thinking of moving the front fans to the top as exhaust and try that, because at the front as intake fans, it seriously seems worthless. Both fans are 120mm Spectre fans, they came with the case.

I'll try to do it today and report back, later.

And about the freezing, I am starting to think it was because of a virus or something called "Lolliport"(or something like that) that Windows Defender found awhile back. I have not frozen at all since then.

Yes, top and back would be best then, since you have a pretty good opening for the original front fan location.

Also, see if you can find a speed rating on those fans. If there aren't on the fan, look up the model number and you should find some info.

Ran the test, as before, (WildStar Client open, OCCT GPU error checking test open, Windows Task Manager open checking CPU usage running at 3.8~3.95Ghz mostly, AMD Control Center checking dGPU usage running at 1000~1180Mhz mostly), for 5 hours:

1H - CPU = 73c, dGPU = 73c
2H - CPU = 75c, dGPU = 74c
3H - CPU = 75c, dGPU = 74c
4H - CPU = 76c, dGPU = 75c
5H - CPU = 76c, dGPU = 74c

And I just went, "Fudge THIS!" and ordered all the fans needed on my case.

Ordered 3, Cougar Vortex PWM 140mm:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835553016

And 3, Cougar Vortex PWM 120mm:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835553002

And 1, NZXT Sen Mix 2:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811992012

Did think about just getting another case, tho. But, I do like this one.

Got the fans and installed them today!

Ran the test, as before, (WildStar Client open, OCCT GPU error checking test open, Windows Task Manager open checking CPU usage running at 3.8~3.95Ghz mostly, AMD Control Center checking dGPU usage running at 1000~1180Mhz mostly), for 5 hours:

Before: (2 front Intake Spectre fans)
1H - CPU = 73c, dGPU = 73c
2H - CPU = 75c, dGPU = 74c
3H - CPU = 75c, dGPU = 74c
4H - CPU = 76c, dGPU = 75c
5H - CPU = 76c, dGPU = 74c

After: (5 Intake Fans and 1 rear exhaust fan, at the lowest setting, on the Sentry Mix2 they all run at 40%, all are Cougar Vortex PWM Fans)
1H - CPU = 53~54c, dGPU = 64c
2H - CPU = 53~54c, dGPU = 64c
3H - CPU = 54~55c, dGPU = 65c
4H - CPU = 54~55c, dGPU = 65~66c
6H - CPU = 54~55c, dGPU = 66c (6 Hours, was away on the 5th)

About a 19~21c less on the CPU side of things and 8~11c less on the dGPU side of things.

(Ran them at 100% for an hour after the 6th hour and temps didn't really lower much, about 1c less. I'll test tomorrow from start to finish at 100%.)

A day or two ago, my computer froze but it seemed it was because of Flash videos, it kept loading, my pointer, and the browser became unresponsive, and soon after the computer froze and had to reset.

Was it really because of Flash?

Very nice temp results! Flash has always been buggy for me. Some versions work great with some games/apps and not others, and can switch by the next release.

So if you have flash issues, see if a new version is available.

Because of other life issues I couldnt run any tests today but I will as soon as I can.

I try to keep all of my software updated, but there was a new version to get yesterday for me. I'm at version 14something now, was at 13something before. Hopefully, that was it.

Thank's for all the help!
