I have a phobia of spider webs. When I'm in my basement or other area that could potentially have spider webs, even the forest, I usually wave a stick in front of me to ensure there are none. When in public I try to do it seamlessly so I don't look too odd. Like if I'm holding an object I might just hold it in front of me. The spiders themselves, or any bugs for that matter do not actually scare me. None of them are poisonous here. I know and accept that this is a completely crazy irrational fear, but can't control it. Something about the way they look, feel, and in some cases, sound. I just got shivers thinking about it.
I do sometimes run into them and freak out a little. I tend to have an idea of where there are normally some or where is more likely and I've gotten kind of good at spotting them ahead of time so I can break them up with a stick. The nice thing about ones outside is they are usually easier to see because they'll have bugs or a spider in it and often reflect in the sun.
This fear does make me realize the way people scared of bugs probably feel though.
