Random disconnects from Live?

I've been getting randomly disconnected from Live. I won't be doing anything special, and it wil say I was disconnected. It usually reconnects shortly after, or I can reconnect instantly on my own.

I'm really not sure what's up with this. I have a Buffalo router (I forget the exact model, but it's very popular for DD-WRT and other custom firmwares) running the Tomato firmware. I share the connection (ethernet cable straight to router) with my PS3, which has NO problems whatsoever with connections. I just switch the cable back and forth depending on what console I use.

Any idea what's causing it? The Live connection test works perfectly. I'm thinking about setting up QoS here soon...perhaps it's a port forwarding issue?

Maybe related?

no its diff then that

same thing happens to me, ill be on live playing solo and the message pops up tha ti was DCed and if i reconeect it works fine, internet never goes down when this happens, sometimes it happens in games which is annoying, cant figure out a cause, i run Linksys routers, forgot the modle num, whatever the standard 4 port wired one is

I had a similar issue - I'd get dropped from Xbox Live frequently, AND I'd lose Internet connectivity on my PC. It was very brief (~1 sec) but happened frequently and was very annoying. I only noticed that I was losing my Internet connection on my PC because my telnet/SSH/VPN connections would die. I ended up having to replace my router, and all is wonderful now.

Ah... I was running a Linksys with DD-WRT and never had any issues. I moved to Verizon FiOS on Friday but I haven't tested my XBLive yet. Hopefully all is good. 🙂

Well, I set up QoS and all that crap, and it seemed to make everything worse. I got more lag on Live (Horrible, actually), and the disconnects were more frequent. I also generally get slower speeds, more lag, etc on PSN when I set up QoS as well.

I'm thinking I'll just leave the router with default settings (aside from wi-fi). It seems to run best that way, even though Live still doesn't work right then.

Edit: Has anyone changed MTU settings (and noticed improvements)? I've heard this can help.

Edit again: My internet isn't going out when these disconnects happen.

I'm having the same problems, but its across all of my internet. 952 ping in a low lag CS:S server, where I usually get 10? There's something screwy going on.

I too have been having a lot of disconnects, but I attributed it to my router because my wireless signal just blows big time. It sucks losing like 10 experience points in Halo 3 because my internet dies mid game 🙁

Hm, well I do have mine wired...

I had to forward ports on my router or I got frequently (well, a few times a week is a lot to me 🙂) disconnected. It also showed my NAT status as Strict before I forwarded the ports. I actually think I have even put my 360's IP on the DMZ as well.

I've only had problems since Halo 3 hit, just a lot of traffic, was my guess about the cause.

My NAT type is open (or whatever it says)...would putting it on the DMZ help possibly? I think I may try it.

Well it helped mine. It wouldn't hurt to try it. It corrected my halo 3 problems, at least 🙂
