Random disconnects from Internet

Got a strange problem that recently popped up maybe about 3 weeks ago.

My main desktop, which is hard-wired to the router, will sometimes randomly lose connection to the internet. I try doing a ipconfig /release /renew, but it can never obtain an IP from the router. The only solution I found to fix it is by doing a reset of the computer.

I also have a laptop which connects wirelessly to the router and this problem never occurs on it.

I'm on cable modem and I know the cable isn't out b/c I can still surf on my laptop when the disconnects occur on my desktop. I have not made any changes (hardware/software) since long before the problem started.

Over the last 3 weeks, I would say this happened about 4 times total. Has anyone heard of a problem like this? Is there any way to fix it other than resetting my comp each time?

Some specs:

Windows XP SP3
Buffalo router with latest DD-WRT firmware
On board nVidia Lan adapter
