Random blue screens when using CD drive

If I insert any type of CD into my CD-RW (the only optical drive I have), the PC will randomly present a blue screen error at any time of its use. It could be working one minute and then just randomly blue-screen-error my PC. This usually happens when the CD drive is in use.

I have updated its firmware sucessfully, and this problem started happening a few months ago. When I first bought the drive it was fine for about a year. I doubt its damaged.

What else could it be?

Extra details: CD-RW: MSI CR52 - 52x/32x/52x
Is on its own IDE cable with nothing else attatched to it.
Replacing the cable doesn't help.

Have you tried changing out the drive to see if the issue persists with a different CD-ROM/RW drive? This should be your first step in troubleshooting this problem, so we can determine if it's a bad drive, or something else at the root of the problem.

Also, write down the STOP 0x_____ code from the BSOD next time you see it. Those STOP codes can help identify the problem
