Hi! I'm new here, but I'm pretty experienced in the ways of PC hardware. However, I need some help.
I have 2 systems at home....1 I ordered from cyberpower about 2 years ago, and 1 I built myself. The videocard in the new one was a 3870 x2.
After installing and attempting to play battlefield 2 (with the latest drivers and latest patch for the game), it would either blue-screen or kick to the desktop after about 5 minutes. It referenced the memory, so I cracked the rig open and checked to see if all was well inside. I made sure everything was secure, then reconnected everything. When I turned it back on, no video was displayed. After trying just about everything, I swapped the 3870 x2 for the 8800GTX in the older PC. Both PC's displayed video! I then uninstalled Battlefield. All was well, until I started getting blue screens at completely random moments....surfing the web, playing games, etc.
Today, I ran Driver Sweeper, and made sure all drivers were current. I haven't gotten a blue-screen since, but Team Fortress 2 and Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War-Dark Crusade will kick me to the desktop, referencing a random number and letter sequence as the problem.
Anway, this is the message I got AFTER the blue screens (in windows):
PROBLEM SIGNATURE
Problem Even Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3

Files That Help Describe the Problem:
C:/windows/minidump/mini062008-06.dmp
C:/windows/temp/WER-23946-o.sysdata.xml
C:/windows/temp/WER89F6.tmp.version.txt
These are the messages displayed DURING the blue screens:
-An attempt was made to execute to non-executable memory. (I got this once)
-PFN_LIST_CORRUPT ( I got this once )
-IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (I get this one the most)
-BAD_POOL_CALLER ( I got this twice)
Here are the specs on the new rig (the one with the problems):
ASUS Maximus Formula (x38)
8800GTX (WAS 3870 x2...see above)
2x2GB Patriot RAM (4-4-4-12, 2.2v, 800mhz...all stock settings)
Q6600 (3.0GHZ, 1333FSB, Q6850 stats)
Silent Knight II Cooler (made by ASUS)
Creative Labs X-fi Extremegamer
Pioneer DVD-RW Drive
2 150gb Western Digital Raptor Drives, 1 500gb Western Digital Caviar (ALL SATA)
Killer NIC (M1 Edition, 400mhz)
ABS El Diablo Case (Big fan on side, things shouldn't be overheating much)
The 8800GTX runs IDLE at about 56 Degrees Celcius, which is pretty hot for a graphics card...have not monitored it during gaming, nor have I monitored my CPU, though it's a G0 stepping, and has aftermarket cooling, with stock voltage, so it should be fine.
The blue screens may come back....please help me!
