Random Blank Screen On Startup

Just put together a new box and am having a random problem. At startup the monitor is blank.You hear the drive start up and it all sounds like a normal startup except there is no monitor . If you hit the reboot button, no help. You have to unplug the unit. When you plug it back in it will startup fine. Seems to be no problem rebooting, just trouble after a shutdown.
Was wondering if I have a compatibility issue with the Video card. Any Ideas?

Board is AsusA7V8x
Video is XFX Geforce 4 MX440 AGP 8X 64 Meg
Using onboard sound
AMD 2500 Barton at 333
256 Megs PC 2700 Ram

I have something similar where Windows 2000 restarts, the drive lights blink and all that, but I get a blank screen. I have to press the reset button, and the screen comes back. Weird.

what kind of monitor do you have?

Try this. Turn your system off. Unplug it from the back. Open the case. Take out the Video Card (assuming that it's not on-board), blow into the AGP slot with compressed air to get out any dust of any sort and reinsert the video card. Blow air into the SVGA/HB15 connector and into the monitor connector as well. Plug it in. Turn on the computer.
