So, I'm in my usual crazy 4-6 lanes of gridlock commute tonight. I'm coming off an interchange which has 2 lanes of solid stop and go to 4 lanes of solid stop and go which transitions to 3 lanes of stop and go that is like that for the next 10 miles until my exit.

Anyway, I'm in the number 1 lane of the ramp trying to merge into the number 4 lane of the freeway I'm getting on. I see a gap and start to move over when another car, a white Lexus, moves over into the same space I was going to occupy. I'm mildly annoyed but we both saw it and both were moving over at the same time, even though I was ahead of him, but no big deal. I let him have the lane and start to move back to where I was. Well, he slows down and flashes his lights to let me in front of him. I gave him a nice wave to thank him.

Don't see that much these days so I thought I'd share.

I have the uncanny ability to work with others in traffic. Somebody started merging and saw my car while he was already partly in my lane. Instead of crying about it and flipping him off like the other 5 year-olds on the road, I backed off and let him merge.

There are still a few sane people left on the road.

I love yielding and letting people with their blinkers on get over.

I saw a woman crying on the side of the road the other day with a flat tire. Fortunately she did actually have a spare (we couldn't find the jack so I used mine) and 10 minutes later she was on her way. She was so thankful and tried to pay me but (a) I wouldn't have taken it anyway and (b) she appeared to need the money much more than me. I told her if she insisted on paying me to donate to a children's charity or pay it forward with someone else that needed help.

The sad thing is she said she had been there almost an hour and I was the first person to offer to help.

Oh this. I admit, I am a jerk to those who don't use their blinker, but if you use your blinker, I generally try my best to let you in.

Always be careful in those sorts of situations. There are robbing crews where a woman sits beside the car crying, and when you go to open the trunk 2 thugs pop out with guns. They rob you, take your car, and hopefully just leave you on the side of the road.

This. If people maintain a constant speed and signal I will go out of my way to accommodate on principal. If they don't have a signal on and they are driving aggressively and looking like they think they are "racing" our trying to surprise me, they can take the curb or get at the back of the line.

Esp if I see chrome rims and a spoiler, see obvious merge signs, and see them acting entitled and flying by multiple opportunities to get over, just to try and dart in front of me or get to the front and being greedy they can DIAF for being a plague of the human race in general. Its not just how they are driving, it's a good indication that they are likely douches in everything else.

I hate pushy shovy selfish greedy people who can't cooperate in anonymous social groups. I'd pop them all in the head on the spot if I could get away with it. I strive for overall efficiency when driving, even when it's not convenient for me at that exact moment. Who has been waiting the longest, who is alert and ready, length of lines, will a lane be blocked, is anyone behind me, what's going to happen 1000 feet from now, what action will inconvenience the least amount of people, I'm factoring this stuff like a computer all the time.

If me waiting 9 seconds to let 3 people out if a parking lot frees up a huge jam, ill do it, doubly so if I can see well just be waiting at the light anyway. But if there is no legit need or reason and someone is just wanting to do figurative lizard pushups at me by speeding passed WOT and cutting me off to take the 3 feet in front of me when there is nobody behind me for a mile, it ain't happening, they will be doing the fall back in behind lane change of shame.

Im always amused when I see other drivers who think like I do and you see this chain of cars working together to fvck over a douchebag who declined 5 opportunities to merge just to get ahead by 10 feet while letting everyone else in.

I'm in the same boat with "blinker" usage. If you don't use your blinker I won't let you in. Use your blinker I'll let you in. Even if the lane ends - I don't know you are trying to get into my lane unless you have your blinker on.

I can't let good people suffer because some people are douchebags. I was careful though and it was in broad daylight on a major interstate. She had no trunk it was an Escort wagon :)

And to the OP, I pretty much always let people in even if they're d-bags. It's just not worth getting my blood pressure up over stupid shit like that.

I let 18 wheelers pass me and it pisses people behind me off. I don't ever let SUVs get in front of me in traffic though. Scums of the earth.
