Grandstanding, with the Cooch as lead counsel. But it's not just posturing, honest.

Good for Rand Paul, The NSA needs to be reigned in and it's not surprising at all the usual suspects come in to defend Obama.

It'll help him with the dim bulbs who vote in the GOP primary.
Anything that goes against Obama is good enough for them.

There have been a lot of accusations of Dems defending Obama over this without anybody in this thread actually doing so.

Why do you believe & assert that they have?

A quick google search shows varied results. I think I didn't know enough to have an opinion on the patriot act when it was passed (I was in HS, not able to vote) though I'd LOVE to see it repealed.

But I also want to see the interstate commerce clause torn down and whatnot. And I want to see restrictions on welfare & requirements for unemployment...along with us making severe cuts to military spending (though I'd probably double NASA's budget in a heartbeat.)

Sorry. Too late.
The NSA has the power and more important now, the technology's to collect endless amounts of data on everyone and everything.
Their ability to collect data one question.
What the government does with that data quite another.
The court, especially the highest court will support and defend the power to collect data.
The technology is there, and it will be used to collect.
I am sure the collection will be fully justified and protected falling under national security.

As far as Randy Paul goes, what to do, what to do? The nut doesn't fall far from the tree.
And for goodness sake Randy, get off the meth.
You're playing with a time bomb.
You know damn well there are people out there that can bust you when their time is right.
And thus bye bye political career.

Can you please quote the posts in this thread which are defending Obama?

Can't do it? Then shut the fuck up!

There is no defending of anyone, especially Obama.
This comes with the job as commander and chief.
This boils down to national security and I bet my ISP that GW, old Dick Cheney, and if he were alive Ronnie Reagan, as well as every American president of past would strongly support the necessity using the NSA resources to protect national security in our day of terrorism within.

This will be game on for Randy.
And don't be surprised if Randy is torn apart then physically dismantled over his little stunt.
Both in court and within his little delusional political world.
This isn't Obama, this is every president that ever occupied that office.
That very same, the buck stops here Oval Office protecting Americans at home and around the world.

Randy Paul has no idea, NO IDEA, the can of worms he has opened, and amusingly how this will end, for Randy.
I'd strongly suggest Randy follow Snowden's example and start the process for asylum elsewhere ASAP.
Not going to be pretty.
Game on.

Yes perhaps you are right and people who have concerns or challenge need to leave. .Patrick Leahy, the ACLU, the EFF, because they too have challenged. We must have strength through ignorance, peace through war, and of course we must slavishly obey and not do as Paul or the others I've mentioned and have those who wonder about freedom removed. I know you believe just like all citizens of Ocea... I mean the US, that Obama is just looking out for us, kind of like a big brother.

People shouldn't overplay their hand, wouldn't you agree?

I think even calling it that, is giving them too much credit.

Not to belittle the severity, but I honestly do not think the NSA is functioning in any way we think it is.

As in, type/speak/upload anything related to a crime (terrorist or not) and the local police will be kicking down your door before your bag of weed, anthrax or C4 is delivered by your supplier (because he/she is being placed in jail as well,...).

I think they have a sea of data, and are barely plucking the things they need to have probable cause in operations countering terrorism (not courts or local authority wise, but operations like when Osama was located and executed,.. as well as the drone kills, etc.).

Now, that is not to say that these clumsy initial efforts won't evolve to something more sinister, and that is my worry (but, we're talking about AI, thinking like a terrorist hunting human - while processing MASSIVE amounts of content/data to determine what IS an actual threat). Once terrorism is under lock and key (or, whatever else they sweep in the terrorism bucket,...), then I can imagine the AI turning to far lesser crimes and big brother/fahrenheit 451-ish existence,... but, we're talking a few dozen centries here.

Even if that is the case its still possible to be against the actual collection of the data the way they are doing it. Besides - just because they aren't doing that now doesn't mean they won't in the future if we just let them keep on doing it. I don't trust the NSA or a large segment of the government to resist the pull of safety and control that that big beautiful mountain of citizen data might give them

Anything that goes against Obama is good enough for them.

Just to clarify - how do you feel about the NSA program and the expansion of domestic spying under the current executive branch? I ask this as someone who voted for Obama twice. I hate this and anything that chips away at it is a good thing in my eyes - even if it comes from someone like Rand Paul
