Depends on the brand, but even then only if I taste them back to back.

Sidenote, I've been in search for GOOD ranch dressing for years, the kind of stuff that restaurants have. Outback Steakhouse has great ranch dressing, as do a few other restaurants in the area, I wish I could find it in the stores. The ranch in the stores is OK, but the restaurant stuff is always better for some reason.

Try making it from the packet. The difference between the packet and bottle is like night and day.

Maybe it's an "I feel bad for you" type of thing?

Oh, and I wouldn't know about tasting buttermilk vs. not... I try not to use dressing myself. :)

I can tell a difference. I like both, but given the choice I'd take regular ranch.

Try Ken's Steakhouse Ranch - it's excellent. It may not be available in your grocery stores though. Stores in WI sell lots of other Ken's dressings but not ranch for whatever reason. I found it last week in TN and bought 2 bottles. They also sell it on their website.

That's what I usually get, and the best I've found. still not "it" though. I need to ask one of the restaurants with the great ranch what it is exactly. I'm sure you can't just get it at the store though.
