Ran out of space on my desk...

Yeah. So it finally happened: the masses of tangled wires and computers lying everywhere finally got to me, so I started looking for a good desk. After searching around the net for a while, I found the LAN Organizer 3000.

That looks very nice, but it costs thousands of dollars, which I'm totally unprepared to spend. So, looking for an alternative, I found the LAN Organizer 1000, which would work very well if I used it with my existing desk. Unfortunately, that costs over a thousand dollars as well :(

Unless there is some sort of cheaper alternative that someone would like to let me know about, I've decided to go to my local welding shop and build my own shelves. Has anyone ever done something like this? Have any tips?

Damn- that desk for thousands of dollars? Seriously dude, you can go buy the hardware and make that thing yourself for far less. It dosent look very complicated (maybe I'm not seeing some hidden complex features) but I suggest you at least make an attempt at carpentry, maybe it's a hidden talent of yours just waiting to break out ;)

Actually, it could be constructed of anti-static components which could significantly add to the cost. In the data center that I used to work in, our chairs ran about $450 - and that was 12 years ago because the bases of them were made out of anti-static materials. They looked like $90 chairs to me, but they were designed for a good purpose - and were priced accordingly.

Hopefully, these shelves at thousands of dollars offer some form of anti-static protection and other nifty features. ;)

It doesn't look to complicated.

I am thinking along the lines of a steel frame, which I can weld myself, and making some sort of adjustable shelving out of laminated wood, which I can probably pick up from Home Depot.
