If you know what the original Barkley Marathons is, then you'll know what I'm talking about if you don't then stop, google search it, pick your jaw up off the floor then continue reading. I ran the grandchild of the Barkley Marathons last weekend, the Barkley Fall Classic. There was a 'marathon' distance which I finished(actually more like 5 miles longer than a marathon) and the 50K version which was about 7.5 miles(12K) longer than actual 50K.
It was 'easier' because we only had to go 31 or 38 miles instead of 100+ and we had aid stations and the occasional trail marking to point us in the correct direction. It was hands down the single hardest thing I've ever done in my life and nothing even comes close.
Here's a link to my race report...and because I'm glutton for punishment I'm already signed up for next year.
