Ran into a punk kid at McDonald's today.

Honestly, I don't judge people just based on their appearance or stereotypical appearance or whatnot. I know decent looking people that are dicks, and a lot of people that look like trash (arguably - this is a matter of opinion) that are decent people.

But yea, your thread title totally made me think this was going to be an entirely different kind of post.

But more on the subject of appearance: I used to wear fairly baggy jeans as a teenager, and may have even used "YOLO" if it were popular at the time. But man, have I ever changed since then. Basically what I'm saying is, even kids who act sort of douchy and unintelligent can have it in them to be really awesome. Sometimes it's a phase you grow out of, and sometimes it's not. Either way, life is more complicated than that. You can't judge based solely on appearance or superficial behaviour.

How about not posting. Please, you derail everything.

Enough folks have mentioned/observed the same derailing pattern. One would think she hate me might take pause and consider they might be right and adjust her fire.

The OP comes on here and tells a story that makes me smile and reminds me about the fallacy of stereotyping. I come on the next day and see it's an argument over the dumbest irrelevant shit...as is the norm when she posts.

This isn't a gun control thread...chill out. She hate everything....🙄

I didn't start an argument. I posted my opinion and everyone got mad about what I said and started trying to flame me. I don't think I flamed a single person here, I didn't call a single person a name. I didn't derail the thread. My post was relevant to the OP. The thread doesn't automatically become derailed because somebody decides not to participate in the groupthink.

I stand by what I had to say. It is my opinion (that I am entitled to)...just as you have your own opinion. It only turned into fire when you folks couldn't accept that I felt the OP could have been the leader in the story instead of the follower. At the end of the day, the OP wasn't the one who decided to feel the man in need. It was the kid. So, you guys can carry on trying to convince me otherwise, I don't care.

I am calm, I've been calm the entire thread. Its the people who are all up in arms over what I said who need to chill.

Flame on.

Peace.

Says the guy who has yet to post something that isn't an attempt to flame. Such a hypocrite.

I didn't say you flamed anyone; however, you did derail the thread...calmly and meticulously. The OP praises the "punk" kid who portrays a very nice gesture and you criticize the OP...I suppose that's relevant?

Have you noticed its ALWAYS, ALWAYS, "you guys".

What and how you think isn't normal. It's completely delusional.
Just try and argue it. The only one encouraging this behavior is you.
If this is you IRL, you must be one of the most pretentious and awkward guys to be around.

Is there a word for someone who sticks to their guns despite overwhelming evidence that they are wrong? Besides stubborn that is. Reminds me of GWB. SHM.

Ridiculous that an entire part of town was merely improvised. The city planner responsible should be fired immediately.

OP did well letting the giving spirit be contagious, rather than going the mentally defensive route, justifying why it's a good idea not to help etc. Sometimes I fall into the latter state of mind out.

We were not waiting in the wings with flamethrowers, it's the way you described OP,
"There is nothing worse than someone who only tries to do good when they see someone else doing it. That's messed up because it isn't genuine."

That's just unnecessarily harsh in apparently everyone's eye's, like you described OP as a scumbag because he didn't offer first, he did offer, and I'd be willing to wager that over 90% of the rest of the people in the world would have offered nothing at all..

Depends on where he lives. Some town layouts are a complete mystery. Ever see DC? Looks they were just winging it :^D

Washington is a Masonic city. The city was designed that way. When viewed from heaven there are a lot of symbols...

My intent was not to call the or describe the OP as a scumbag but to express my disappointment that it took someone else for him to realize that the man needed help. I saw his attitude towards the guy in the opening statement of his post. So, I spoke up about it. I think that its great that he offered to help pay after the kid came in, but he seemed (based on his opening statement) to pass the guy off immediately before that kid came in. That is why I said something.

Acutally....I explained more in my second post...

But seriously....only doing good because you saw someone else doing it is pretty lame, imo...because it doesn't come off as genuine. Suddenly you care about feeding the homeless guy you just ignored when you came in because some punk that you also didn't care much for turned out to have a bigger heart than you.

Help the homeless because thats REALLY what you want to do....not because someone next to you did it.

I've given homeless people change before if I have it, I try not to flat out ignore anyone. Most of the time I tell them I don't have anything because I really don't. People are down on their luck out here, it doesn't take much to change somebody's day....a quarter....some chicken nuggets, a bottle of water, etc.

Yet, many people were...because that's all they've got.

lol, that's not what the bolded statement says. Your bolded statement shows disappointment that he only helped a man because of the initiative of another. If you were disappointed that the man needed help and you felt the op was full of shit, you would have said "Help the homeless because they need it, not for your own image".

Same type of style, just minus the brah's and same lame ass insults.

The only thing they have in common is that they're both argumentative and don't give up readily. SheHateMe is generally more political, makes sweeping statements about people for single actions, gets much more defensive, and makes liberal use of the eye-roll smilie. In contrast, Alkemyst gets personal and picks specific targets, and if he gets tired of an argument he's more a "lol whatever" kind of guy. I'd sooner compare her to Nik or sixone, or even DominionSeraph in argument-style (and those aren't perfect comparisons either).

Your opinion is ridiculous.

Eh just a little misunderstanding of what genuine means, then a victim of their own hyperbole more than anything.

These gaffes aren't such a big deal so long as there's no irrational fear of rethinking & retracting when necessary. Everyone makes mistakes. It's just some people are so afraid to ever admit to an error, they'd rather compound the issue & just weather the storm instead, until everyone taking issue gets bored & moves on (i.e. until all the haters have been defeated).
