I definitely think you'd lose a noticable amount of brightness and color from the set no matter what time of day. I also think the mirror would look a bit bulky considering your TV already likely sticks out from the wall several inches (at a minimum) and this would have to go over that.

I wouldn't put form over function. I think there's no doubt that some level of PQ is going to be lost by viewing it through anything except for the TV screen itself. The only thing I would put in front of my plasma is an 8-foot projector screen :).

You think a big ass mirror looks better than a TV? Not to mention the TV will look like crap behind a semi obscured piece of glass with its own glare?

Maybe he wants to disguise the TV because he lives in a crappy neighborhood? I think about this sort of thing a lot, because where i live, most of the break ins are brazen door kickers, in broad day light, and involve just grabbing and running with what ever is in sight. So i own a 30" CRT television. I could buy a nice 32" LCD, but no ones going to be able to quickly get away with a 30" CRT TV. It weighs like 70 lbs. And the picture is great for a TV that size.

You need to find you a used Sony 34" XBR CRT HDTV. The thing weighs nearly 200 pounds and has a great HD picture. I've seen a few on craigslist in my area for about $200-$300 used.

I had an ipod case that was like that. It took away a lot of brightness from the screen.
