Ran 100m sprint today...

Me and my coworkers decided to start a monthly 100m sprint followed by 1 mile race. I ran 100m only, since there is no way in hell I can compete in 1m race. Finished first, in 13.2s which surprised everybody since they thought all I could do is lift weights.

We do have quite a few people who take running seriously. They practice almost every day, run races and some even marathons. However, sprint is a whole different animal.

I still think I can improve and get under 13s but I need to work on my stamina. Believe it or not, I actually started running out of breath the last 10 meters. Any advice on how to improve? Any stretching execrsices to warm up? I know if I dropped a few pounds that'd help me - but I refuse to sacrifice weight lifting for running.

just keep running. it is great for improving cardio-vascular health. your problem will fix itself if you just keep running.

lonnnnng cardio. track season consists for us (100m runners) ok long 1600-3200 runs and drills even though we are sprinters. strength training is definately important but of course you know that. starts are perhaps most important, and formmmmm. keep your arms pumping, head streaight and the such... etc.

during my freshman year this year, i ran 12 flats. its considered really good for freshmen. low 12s and high 11s are very good times for our age.

real generally, increase stamina, stretch a lot, strength train, increase stride length (you can use a ladder or sidewalks), form (very important), and feet coordination (try running steps, or jumprope to steps)

6 minutes is awesome. I could probably run in a little over 8 if I tried really hard. But with guys from work we're talking sub 6, so I don't stand a chance.

i havent done a timed 100m in a long time. when i was a sophmore in high school i could do one in like 12 seconds.

now i can run a mile in about 5:50. when i was running every other day, it wasnt even that strenuous, but i think if i had to right now, it'd probably hurt pretty bad.
