I have a 7800gtx and I want to watercool it. I cant install the ramsinks on one of the memory things (what teh hell are those called?) because the water tube will hit it. How important is it to have all of the ram sinks on on the video card?

lolol.... shave the ram sink down with a dremel... or bend it to the side so it doesnt hit the LP Maze4 intake.

But yeah i feel your pain...

Doesn't mean 'jack' to me, 'cause it's 'on on' your vid card!

How important is it to you?

it lets me clock my ram to about 800mhz+ so yeah.. it is kinda important if you like to overclock.

Personally I haven't found them necessary. I too have a 7800gtx. With stock cooling, which covers the ram, they'd overclock to ~480 MHz; 430 MHz is stock.

"When I put a dangerden maze4 on there with no ramsinks, they overclocked to 515. YMMV and all that, and I haven't tried with ramsinks, but I still get 35 MHz more with nothing on them than with the original cooler.

i should of been more informative. Raising ram wont give u any increased performance until you hit around 650mhz on clock of your core. AFter that it shows more beneifital to raise ram speed in accordance to card speed.

There was a article about this on xs forums.

So if u havent done a volt mod.. then no u dont need those ram sinks. The Vin is right. If you did however volt mod, then your best putting those sinks on.

Personally id save up for a Koolsh NV-79 or NV78. I had 2 of those on XFX cards and gave them to my little brother as a xmas gift. But oh man, they hit 710mhz at almost 1970mhz on ram with a 1.5V mod and frankly those cards were NO JOKE.....
