RAMsinks on my Leadtek Geforce2GTS, IS IT WORTH IT?

Hi,

I've been on this cooling/overclocking craze ever since I was able to get my Duron600@1 GHz. Now, I want to try the same for my Geforce2. The RAM only overclocks upto 375 DDR MHz, but at 380 I start to get artifacting so I'm wondering if RAM sinks will let me be able to operate it at 380 MHz safely? I currently have a thermaltake blueorb on there that is doing quite nice in the core cooling department, so what about the RAM? Also, I'm thinking of mounting one of those mini-sinks on the PLL chip on my A7V since that seems to get pretty hot when o/cing the FSB. Well that help too? Thanks.

Just feel your GF2's ram. They don't get that warm do they? You're just getting artifacts because it's beyond the capability of your specific set of ram chips.

Look at it this way, you might see a noticeable(10-20+Mhz) gain if you managed to cool the chips down to say -10C. Ramsinks might reduce the temp of the chips a whopping 1C on a good day in a well ventilated case.

See my point? Their heat production is not what is causing them to be unstable(unlike most CPUs), they are just beyond their normal threshold and only sub-zero cooling will get you any gain.

thx Def that certainly makes sense, so i dont think im gonna buy any. however, i am going to remove the hs on my northbridge and replace it with a blueorb and maybe use that old hs on my PLL chip on the A7V. i wont know for another 2 weeks though, doh! comp is @home while im away at school. ;(

how about a better heatsink/fan for the chip itself? will that actually help the stability much? make a noticeable difference? I have a geforce2 gts (elsa)

i have a thermaltake blueorb for my leadtek geforce2. its very cool looking, and im sure itll do the job. i havent installed it yet, cuz i dont have my comp with me....yet. i highly recommend the blueorbs. plus the hs/fan on my leadtek is just butt-ugly.

I bought some cheap aluminum heatsinks over at a local electronics surplus/junk store. Used some thermal paste and super glue to attach. I'm using an ATI Radeon LE with a blue orb and those ramsinks. I can do 200MHz Core / 400MHz RAM with that setup. And that's with 6ns RAM. I recommend getting ramsinks assuming they are cheap.
