Most kids can't control their emotions. That's why they behave like that.

I have to go with Elladan here - prevalent scientific thinking with regards to neurochemistry indicates that it isn't until the mid to late teens that people are able to process cause/effect the way that adults do. Consequently, kids/teens neurologically are less able to consider long term ramifications of their actions.

:D

Like the good book says, "Foolishness is born in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him."

LOL

A short list of the "stupid" things I did as a child:

Built a soap box car out of 2x4's, nails and lawnmower wheels and rode it down a hill and through a heavily used intersection, never had brakes on it.

BB gun wars with my friends where we would shoot each other with BB gun's.

3 wheelers....well you name it, we did it....including riding across a 6 mile RR tressel with no escape route if a train came, and jumping them off a 7ft ramp.

there are plenty more.....believe me.....and I turned out very well adjusted.

Now I look at my 12 year old, who doesnt do anything except sit ont he computer or playstation all day, and I just sigh. He will regret all this lost time when he gets older. Today's kids are overprotected and have no ambition or ingenuity. It is a shame.

At least kids today don't go running around setting abandoned barns on fire, or steal their dad's double barrel shotgun and blow away every living animal in sight then accidentally hold the gun wrong and having the kickback from it dislocate your shoulder. how about playing "chicken" with oncoming trains? this is stuff my gramps did when he was a kid and trust me, he turned out fine!

just be happy these kids are on playgrounds! lol :D

Some children have to make mistakes to learn anything, other children can learn from mistakes without making any, just by considering what can go wrong when they do something.

<< Stupid?!? Like you guys never did anything like this when you were kids. I think we are being just a bit overprotective here....children playing a little rough on a swingset is nothing to get this upset over....we all did it, it made us kids. But go ahead, raise your little army of incompetent sniveling little brats. I will bring my children up normally and allow them to act like children. >>

i tend to agree... i'd rather my children make their own mistakes and learn from them than try to shelter them to the point they can't do things for themselves... however i realize that as a parent your child's safety is the ONLY priority and it's hard to not want to protect them when you can help it... the best thing you can do is to constantly teach them things... it may be argued that common sense is innate but the more information the child has by which to make their decisions, the better off they are...
