To tell you the truth i would go with the p6x58d instead of the extreme. I had that motherboard and brought it back because half the features i wouldn't use. It was to expensive also. I took the rampage 3 formula and it performs. You can also check out the new evga classified if you want to.I would get a another type of ram. You can choose g skill, corsair or kingston.

sickamore, is that the only reason you wouldn't go with the rampage? or did you just have some serious issues with the mobo itself?

also.. do you mind giving me a link of the evga classified mobo you were speaking of?

another vote for P6X58D...or even the E version..both are killer boards...r3e is extreme and only if your going to do massive o/clocks with crazy cooling...way o/kill for normal o/clocks @ or around 4.0.....

I had some serious issues with this board. The problem is mainly with the north and south bridge. We want the best money can buy but do yu need all these useless features

Look at my signature thats the board i have. If you read the post early i did tell you about. She performs

This week we purchased 3 Asus Rampage III Extreme motherboards along with 24GB RAM, and an x980 CPU (changed from my earlier brainfart number) for each. Yeah expensive as hell, but they were for demonstration machines to compare our SSD's, our PCIe SSD board, versus a HDD platform performance. Of the two MB's, one simply stopped booting within 2 hours. Of the the 2 that still worked, 1 would intermittantly come up with a boot up error about overclocking (which we are not, all were set to BIOS defaults). All MB firmware was updated as soon as the OS was installed.

Sure they come with all sorts of doohicky gimmicks, but I was completely not impressed. Add-on gimmicks don't make up for two out of three having issues for such an expensive MB.

Last i check a 875 proccessor is a 1155 and the rampage 3 extreme supports 1366 socket. So how are you able to put a 875 cpu on there.

My vote would be for the P6X58D Premium. I have seen too many bad posts regarding the Rampage. I had a Rampage III Formula and returned it for the P6X58D Premium because of all the issues I had with the formula. No board is perfect and you didn't say what you would be using it for but in my book the Rampage is too unstable fo reveryday use.

Ooops yeah you're right, had 875 number on my brain because I just got done reading some article on it.. They were actually Intel x980's.

These were supposed to be overkill demo machines. So they were put in fancy flashing LED fan cases, lots of stickers on outside of case, etc, etc. unfortunately like I mentioned the reliability was crap from our sample.

So far jaileo i havent hard any issues so far and its running perfrectly fine. The only issue i have is getting my graphics card to run at 16 x when it supports it. I dont know if its the board or the graphics card but i believe its the card.

I had an issue getting my Crucial C300 to run on the Marvel Sata III controller. I tried two different C300s and could not get them to run. The BIOS saw them okay but Windows would not work either from a clone or a clean install. On the clean install the installation would fail every time. On the ASUS web site forums others are having the similar issues. I had two different Rampage III Formulas and both had Marvell issues. I expect that ASUS will release a new BIOS someday that resolves the issue but in the meantime I got a P6X58D Premium that runs everyhting with no issues.
