my mobo looks like the link below
http://news.softpedia.com/newsImage/Asus-ROG-Rampage-IV-Extreme-Motherboard-Gets-Pictured-3.jpg/

Right till yesterday all the ram slots are full. I can run my super computer 32gb no problem. Today my computer suddenly falter. so yea i went on the troubleshoot routine. yea yea i have x64 ultimate it has 32gb display just yesterday.

my motherboard is not recognizing the slots above the motherboard. I put the rams in all 8 of them and it turns out the ram is not even hot for the top 4 slots. it looks like power is not running through there.

So i suspect something is grounded in my motherboard becuase my comptuer boot normally if i plug out the power 6 pin connector behind the sound channels. (the six pin connects above the 4 slots of the ram above the cpu and just below the sound channels) in the picture below.

1 strange facts
1) there's a power outage from a thunderstorm that cuase my desktop to turn off. does the irregular static discharge cause the power line to the top 4 slots of the ram to rapture?

Wrong sub-forum?

So any of the sticks work fine in the bottom slot but having ram in any one of the 3 slots will take down the system?

Okay we need to get this sorted out between the MB and the RAM. You need to test for a bad stick.

Quick test: Try each stick in the bottom slot to verify that each stick of RAM will let the computer boot.

Longer version: Download and burn "Ultimate Boot" and run a RAM test on each stick while it is in the lower slot.

If all the RAM tests good it almost has to be the MB that is the problem. Idk, I guess if the i7 has an on die RAM controller it could be the CPU but my guess it the MB.

Did something happen? Lightning storm? New hardware? Your kid messed with it? You dropped it? You were messing around in the case with no wrist strap and sparked to the memory slots?

Anywayz i fix the current problem. At the back of the motherboard the pins for the bottom 4 slots are touching each other thus shorting it out.

New problem.
