my friend has an HP computer with a p4 and 128MB of rambus.... she is complaining of poor performance while operating in WinME... would it be safe to say that adding another 128MB of rambus would help improve performance? Also, does it hurt to mix 256 with 128 sticks? (just incase i can convince her to get the larger stick)?

You have to add sticks in equal size pairs.

So if you wanna add 128 mb, you gotta get 2x64 MB, for 256, its 2x128, and so forth.

Check how many RIMM slots the comp has before you go and buy anything.

ok, so she probably has 2x64 right now... and if the motherboard has 4 slots, I can order 2more 64mb sticks.... and if it only has two slots... i order 2x128 and sell the other sticks(2x64)?

using "ME" and "poor performance" in the same sentance is redundant 😉

Seriously, get her to buy XP. It runs so much smoother.

I believe AmusedOne has hit the nail on the head. I've never had a pleasent experience with WinME.

XP, or at the very least, Win2K.

If it's an older machine from when RD RAM was new, you might want to check and see if she has PC600 or PC700 and replace it with PC800.

But the biggest problem is Me. Me is a joke.
