Was looking over at the inquirer, and rambus has had a big jump on their stock prices . . . anyone know why? They have been working on some pretty crazy next-gen RAM technologies, and if I remeber right, they have signed a contratract with someone to provide their tech . . . might be for a game station . . . maybe a graphics card mfg . . .

Anyone??

I heard something about it running the new Infinium game console. But historically the Infinium game console has been a joke.

Talk about a company with good technology that tried to bite off more than it could chew.

Graphics cards, game consoles, and other non-upgradable applications with uses for very high performance memory might be a better market for them than attempting to monopolize the mainstream PC market though.

Gamers (and developers) have proven that an extra $50-100 is NOTHING if it gives noticably higher performance, so rambus might have a chance at very good profits in this market. As opposed to PCs, where we all went out and bought frickin' VIA chipsets just to avoid the rambus trap;)
