It does make you wonder how many patents the members of JEDEC have concering SDRAM and DDRAM. Rambus has said that if they are sued they will not grant a license to that company. It would be ironic(read great) if all the members of Jedec did the reverse to Rambus.

I have no idea of all the details of the Rambus lawsuits, and whether they are actually even legit or not, but I am glad to see someone take some fight into Rambus's house.

The interesting thing about this is that some of these lawsuites, if not all, are probably legit.
I bet there's an amazing amount of redundant patents in ram technology.

anyone notice that in these two stories the text is exactly the same?

<< In other action today, the International Trade Commission agreed to investigate a separate Rambus petition seeking to block import of Hyundai SDRAMs into the U.S. for alleged patent infringement. Hyundai and Rambus are also suing each other in federal district court in San Jose. That court has assigned the case to a mediator. Formal mediation sessions are slated for early next year. >>

for the sue, sue, sue commentors:

WTF, like Rambus isn't seeking domination of the RAM industry.

All these other companies are supposed to roll over because Rambus somehow managed to convince some idiot in the Patent Office that their patents were legit?

I for one am very pleased to see Hyundai and Infineon fight back against a company that twisted patent law to their own gain at the expense of an industry and consumers.

I think there should be a law that states the plaintiff of a patent infringment suit should pay the legal costs of the defendant if they lose a suit. Also the US patent office is
BADLY in need of overhaul. Too many stupid bogus patents written by greedy lawyers.

Many laws do allow the victor to recover legal expenses. I hope this puts Rambus back into their own pockets and out of everyone else's. But monopolies seem to be the growing trend in a money driven society.

We have the best government money can buy. Equal justice for equal money.
