The only reason people aren't buying Rambus is the price. Everyone seems to hate rambus, except me, but I didn't pay alot for my system. I bought it used from a friend who went for a real high end upgrade (also Rambus.) Here are links to two diferent articles (one right here on Anandtech) they show that when money isn't a issue Rambus is the clear choice:

Anandtech's Dream System

The Tech Zone's Dream System

Don't give me yada yada about DDR ram..It's not out yet. Also don't give me crap on latency; sure there is more latency. Does it really mater? Have you ever seen it perform on a properly configured system (not one built by a 16 year old)? It's fast!! You can't run it and say "too slow" or "too much latency"

okay boys and girls, today, we are going to learn about being stupid and posting messages on a BBS to make people mad. They don't use scientific data, they just use their opinion, and or use out of date information. We call this "trolling." There will be a quiz on monday class.

Any questions?

only good thing about using RDRAM is the bandwidth you get when you use 2 channels. besides that it isn't even worth posting about

i think it's stupid to flame the guy when he's clearly giving an opinion as a user. He's not saying RAMBUS IS GOD, PRAY TO HIM, he's saying he's happy with his rambus system. Good for you luvrambus, I've never used it and yes, I will never buy it BECAUSE OF THE PRICE, and for no other reason. I could really care less if rambus (the company) is evil, since it seems to be blowing up in thier face.
-just tryin to put out some fires :p

rambustroll,

You might want to read a little.

Ace's Guide to Memory Technology, Part 2

DDR RAM is here and motherboard support is arriving soon. i820 + PC800 was obsolete before it was introduced. You'd better hope that i850 works if you want to recoup some of that RDRAM investment. Note that the Anand and TechZone dream systems uses the i840. Personally, I think it still sucks and will disappear from "dream" system specs as soon as the dual T-Bird + 266 DDR appears.

Good luck.

RAMBUS SUCKS, RDRAM on the other hand is ok, but unfortunetly there is something called SDRAM which performs right now about the same as RDRAM and then we have the uppcoming DDRAM, which performs ALOT better than RDRAM. The biggest problem with RDRAM is probably the stupid company behind it, Rambus.

I think luvrambus is actually GUTB.

I have RDRAM (luckily enough they are free) and seriously, I don't feel good about it. Even price is not an issue I have no idea why I should like it...

[butthead laugh] luvrambus, uh huh huh hu uh uh uh, he said ram.. uh huh huh
junior member.. uh huh huh huh uhh uh huh. tttthis is gonna be Kool. [/butthead laugh]

<<The only reason people aren't buying Rambus is the price>>

Uhmmm, No. The reason no one is buying rambus is because of the dogsh1t platform you have to use it on (performance) (i820) uh huh huh. Yes, And price, but that's not the Only reason. ALSO, most people know the technology isn't going to last, so their investment will be worthless before too long.

There's 3 reasons. I could probably come up with others... Oh, can't forget... A LOT of people are ANTI-RAMBUS (what bungholes!).

huh huh huh, Junior members... uh huh huh.

<< we are going to learn about being stupid and posting messages on a BBS to make people mad. >>

If you got mad because of what I said, then it is you who are stupid..

<< They don't use scientific data, they just use their opinion, and or use out of date information >>

If you would have clicked the links you would have seen that it is not only my opinion, also the link to Anandtech's article is not even two weeks old (Sept. 27 2000)

<< Just think this guy actually went to the trouble of registering as a new member to post this! >>

if you read around in the forum you will see that I have posted other topics and many replies..I did not create this account for this post. Another thing..I did not use foul language like you did

<< wind-up-shitheads >>

I am merely participating in this forum, the same as any other of the 30 some odd thousands of users here. My post is not spam and it clearly falls within the topic of "General Hardware Forum". The forums are here so we can post our opinion and this is mine..plus I added links of other's opinions to back me up. It makes me curious as to why people on this forum have such deep feelings on rambus. I think most people dislike Rambus because Intel, being the giant that it is, tried for force consumers into going for RDRAM. I'm thankful to AMD in that aspect (yes I own one) because if it weren't for their competition the pc's you are sitting in front of right now would be much more expensive
Yes, Rambus blew up in Intel's face because people aren't willing to pay so much more money for only a little bit more performance...I'm starting to babble..let me stop here.

i have to say i like rambus, i like intel, but the price is the only reason i dont snatch myself up a stick or two of rambus.

anyone have a problem with likeing intel? why is it that you dislike intel? just because they were and are too used to being the only cpu maker out there and therefore making their chips a little more expensive. Just wait, intel was laid back this year because they didn't see amd as a threat, but soon the real competition shall begin.

and if you decide to flame me because i said that intel chips are a little more expensive, i actually have to say the prices are actually equal. how so you ask? it is because all the amd motherboards cost quite a bit more than boards for intel cpus and therefore filling up the gap in between the two prices differentials. And what about how amd chips require a good power supply, more expensive and varius other things which have somehow been blocked out of the minds of the die-hard amd pushers here.

i have nothing against amd but i do hate people who love amd and won't except new things just because it is made by intel

what happens if the P4 beats the amd chips so badly that amd disappears, even though this wont happen, what do you amd lovers do? stick with your soon to be obsolete ghz chips or go with the intel 100 ghz processors. of course 100ghz is a little far off. And i know some of you are going to ask what do intel people do if amd disappears, they will probably get amd chips. i have not seen very many die-hard intel pushers because maybe they are more open minded and like the best chip and not a certain company

Syborg1211, I would have to disagree on the price issue. An AMD motherboard would only cost $20-$50 more, as an Intel processor costs around $100 more. This is of course based on what I see, but I'm sure it's pretty accurate.

Hey I actually LIKE rambus. I wish I was lucky enough to be in JEDEC conferences scribbling down discussions and passing it all off as my own work. It's a scam worthy of any naughty schoolboy. God-damn!
The product is kind of mediocre though.

Rambus work preceded JEDEC's by a number of years. Check out the patents.

(I hate putting this in a thread started by a troll but it is true)

Osangar you is a naughty boy!
Not true actually. RAMBUS filed a few patents at first, but only years later did they sit in JEDEC conferences and APPEND JEDEC TECHNOLOGY TO THEIR OWN OLD PATENT BECAUSE OF THE WAY PATENT LAW WORKS. That is what outrages people.

Their original application date proceeded JEDEC but the revisions they made were during and after JEDEC. Basically they went to JEDEC, then adjusted their original patent to match today's technology.
