Seven years have passed since Stallone last reprised the role of Vietnam vet John Rambo. The last film, “Rambo,” earned $113 million worldwide.
Since 2008, he’s talked about both retiring the character (who first appeared in David Morrell’s 1972 novel “First Blood”) for good and bringing him back for a last hurrah. Stallone apparently decided on the latter as he’ll be writing and directing and “Rambo: Last Blood,” in addition to starring in the film.

I think I'll go see it. I always like Stallone and Rambo is a classic.

well, Rambo 3 is somewhat hilarious today--I do enjoy watching as John Rambo aids the noble Taliban in vanquishing the enemies of Freedom and Morality. :awe:

First Blood is one of my favorite films. The last movie was also good in the sense that it is unapologetically gory revenge porn. The kind of gore Hollywood is afraid to show anymore.

Jingoism at it's finest.
We may have been wrong about the Taliban but it doesn't mean the Russians were actually good guys. 😉 Portraying Taliban as the good guys furthered our interests at the time. So ironic that we were ultimately making a haven for our enemies (Taliban invited Al Qaeda) and providing them US-made weapons (not like they just disappeared when Russia backed down).

Rocky Balboa for the seventh time in director Ryan Coogler’s “Creed.” He’ll play the trainer of Apollo Creed’s grandson, portrayed by Michael B. Jordan.

The last movie "Rambo" was pretty damn good but it was extremely bloody. I'm all for some violence for holy crap did that movie go overboard on it

That's what made it so satisfying -- Like the part when he uses that truck-mounted turret to turn some guy into goo (at point blank range) :awe:

They made it obvious that the bad guys in that movie totally deserved everything that happened to them.

did you not see 2008's "Rambo"?

First Blood is a very good movie, but considering the only person he kills is indirect and unintentional as well as in self defense, he never really lives up to the colloquial definition of the term "Rambo".

First Blood has the best plot, Rambo has the best action. In fact, Rambo's plot is so simple, its 7.1/10 IMDB rating is pretty much solely due to the action.

huh? I don't think you understand--at all.

First Blood was a standalone film, in which the character was named John Rambo. it was based on established content and one of the finest films about Vietnam War veterans of the time, and remains so.

There was no "Rambo" then. Hollywood sunk its meat-hooks into the property and decided to recreate this character, and roll out some shithole sequels to capitalize on the 80s stupid action genre, best observed through typical Shwarzennegar schlock like "Commando."

What you consider to be "Rambo" was an invention after First Blood, to sell a bunch of toys to kids. None of that has anything to do with First Blood.

My point is that there is First Blood, and then some other film series with a protagonist named Rambo, that might as well be something entirely different. John Rambo in First Blood, is not "Rambo." First Blood should never have to live up to this "colloquial definition" of Rambo, because that is a true bastardization of the original character.

I did see the latest one. I don't find it to be any different than "Rambo" II and III: it's just some meathead shooting up a bunch of people for no real reason.

I thought it was funny how critics blasted the first movie and they all believed the protagonist was violent and brutal, even after they had watched the movie. I think you can still find the Siskel+Ebert TV review on YouTube...
 
they need to do a reboot with a chick playing Rambo, and call it Ramby: Monthly Blood
