is the ddr3 ram, for example: Kingston 1GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Desktop Memory Model KVR1066D3N7/1G - Retail, worth it? I see alot of ddr2 being used but saw the ddr3 and was just wondering.

Unless you can match the timings of the DDR2 1066 (e.g. 5-5-5-15 as DDR2 standard today for this speed), the DDR3 1066 with much higher timings will be slower.

Not worth the expense at today's prices.

thanks for the advice, was looking at your rig and see you have the following:
2x1GB G.Skill F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ@800MHz 4-4-4-12-2T (black slots)
2x512MB G.Skill F2-6400PHU2-1GBHZ@800MHz 4-4-4-12-2T (yellow slots)

Might be more expensive than the other kits, but worth every penny IMHO.

thanks, will add that to my shopping list; so what if i get this: CRUCIAL BALLISTIX BL2KIT12864AA1065 2GB KIT (1GB x 2) MATCH PAIR PC28500 1066MHZ 5-5-5-15 240-PIN DDR2 DIMM W/HEAT SPREADER? http://www.mwave.com/mwave/vie...+DDR2+High+Performance

just have to find a good motherboard that supports a quad core chip and SLI etc. lookin to get an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80562Q6600 now.

Generally speaking - you can't go wrong with Crucial. They own Micron, so their memory is practically guaranteed to use D9 IC's.

I like G.Skill HZ series, because they are rated to run at only 2.0 - 2.1V. Crucial is rated at 2.2V, and I've heard of the "initial" startup problems with those kits (most motherboards need memory that can boot at 1.8V, and only then you can go into BIOS and change it).

But again - this Crucial RAM is a top notch memory.
