I have two 256MB sticks and one 128MB stick. Should install the largest module in the lowest numbered slot? Does it really matter which slots the sticks are in?
I spend lots of time playing games in WinMe (mostly UT). What do I need tweak in WinMe so it can use the 640MB of ram efficiently?

My Computer

Thanks in advance!

It doesn't matter where you put them.

You shoul ddo the tweak where you tell windows to use all your ram before using the swap file.

Open your system.ini file and copy this line:

ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1

under the 386enh section. Set you swap file to something very small (you can even put 0 with all the ram you have) and reboot.

Most of the time it doesn't matter the order, however there are many MB's that demand you populate the slots in order, starting with the first slot.
Another thing to consider is that many boards set the timings in the bios according to the ram SPD chip which it reads off the first slot.
If you have a nice CAS2 stick in the first slot and a crappy CAS3 in the second slot, the bios will set fast timings according to the SPD on the best stick, possibly causing random instability, crashes,locks ect.
To avoid this I always put the slowest of the combo in the first slot, a few MB's I have heard can even set individual timings.
If all sticks are CAS2 or all CAS3, order shouldn't matter as long as your bios/MB can handle the large sticks.
