Ram with better head spreaders worth the extra cash?

No. Rem temps are a non-issue unless massively overclocking the ram. Then removing the heat spreaders and adding a fan are the way to go.
 
Agreed. They're not worth it. If you're massively overclocking / overvolting the RAM you need something way better
than most stock ramsinks. If you're not, simply having a good airflow in your case with a bit flowing over the RAM
should be just fine under ordinary conditions.

I suppose if you're trying to operate the PC in a 35C room, I'd tell you you had to add some super-stock fans / heatsinks
or something if you also overclock or expect high performance.
