What determines the amount of ram that can be installed on a Windows 32 bit operating system? If the motherboard shows up to 4 Gbs then why do they say may show under 4? I have a 32 bit xp Pro and need to know what would be the most amount of ram to install?

Well till it gets moved i'll give you some information.

On a 32 bit OS the max amount of RAm that can possibly be addressed is 4gb. But Windows XP only utilizes a little more then 3.5Gb. But 2Gb is more then enough for anything you need to do in a 32 bit OS. If you need more for Photo/video editing or 3D rendering then you would be better off moving to a 64 bit OS where the cap on the RAm is way higher.
