Ram voltage compatibility

Really should know what laptop and check compatibility.

The laptop mobo might not run the ram any faster, even if the ram is capable, for example.

You might buy faster ram, and be stuck at the slower speed.

I have an HP Envy Spectre 14-3010NR.

I'm not so much worried about the speed as I am worried about needing to match voltages. Most 8GB sticks on Newegg are 1.35V.

Looks like you could have the HM65 or HM76 chipset on the board.

I think the HM76 will support the 1.35V ram and the HM65 won't?

CPU-Z will tell you the chipset, I think. Will also tell you the speed the ram is actually running.
