RAM usage

I was playing with BF2 video settings trying to get the highest with good performance. I was surprised to see that I was getting lag/stuttering even at somewhat low settings. I have 1 gig of RAM, X800XL, Venice 3000, etc...

I left the task manager open and started a map, then came out of it. The PF Usage was at 1.14GB while playing and the Physical Memory said that there was about 16 MB free. Why isn't it using every last bit of RAM? Does the high PF usage mean I need more?

The PF usage graph in the task manager is not PF usage, oddly enough. The only way to measure PF usage with tools built into Windows is through perfmon using the "%usage" counter for the pagefile.

What is the PF Usage graph telling me then?

The graph is showing the total of pagefile-backed address space in all processes plus the OS. Think of it as the amount of pagefile space that would be used if all the pageable things in RAM were to be paged out.
