I have an ASUS a7v266 MB and an 1300XP cpu with 1gb of DDR266 ram, is this RAM good enough for a faster cpu & mobo. I am doing some DVD back up with DVD Shrink and when I pull up the task mgr it says I am using 100% of cpu. Will it help upgrading my cpu & mobo now with this ram and upgrading ram later? I will also be doing a case upgrade mine is a pos with no fans.

Oh yeah, yes I am a noob!
Thanks RJ

If you upgrade the cpu, you would have to run the ram at 266, which involves changing the FSB:RAM speed ratio.

Otherwise it should work, maybe not the best it could, however.

Your DDR266 would work with a newer chip and mobo, but would hamper performance... You should rather get yourself some DDR400. (You could even get DDR466/500 if you really want ;))

I would reckon rather wait a little until you have the cash to upgrade CPU, mobo and RAM at the same time.
