RAM upgrade problems

I am trying to install a 128MB RAM memory on my Compaq Presario 5441. I was able to install a PNY Technologies' 128 MB SDRAM (DIMM, PC133) which was bought by a friend of mine an year ago. When I bought similar 128 MB RAMs and tried to install them, they only show 56MB instead of 128 MB. It shows 128MB RAM on a newer computer. This RAM also has 4 chips on it as compared to the older ones which have 8 chips.

I had bought the PC sometime late 1999. Is this problem because my PC has an old motherboard which is not able to fully recognise the new 128 MB memory. Are there any "old" memory available in the market? Has anybody experienced similar problems before.

😱:disgust:
