Ram upgrade or Hard drive?

Hi all. If you remember I've been trying to get ahold of a new Mac for awhile and I've finally got one(should be here Thursday I think). It's 1.33ghz, 768mb Ram, and stock 40gb hard drive.

I think I can scrounge up some extra cash + tax returns(I don't get a lot back, part time student..you know how it is). Around $145 is what I come up with. Well, I either want to upgrade the memory, or the hard drive. The memory I guess is the easy part, however I wouldn't mind the extra faster storage space either. Any mac users that know whether shelling out for the hard drive(buying it then having like best buy install it so as not to void warranty or anything) is worth it? I can't decide...their both for the same price!

What will you be doing with it? Personally, I'd need more storage space no matter what, but if you'll just be doing photoshop work or the like, you'd be better off with the RAM.

I have the same computer and went from 256mb of ram to 1.25 GB. It helped but it wasn't so dramatic. Coming from 768mb will be even less dramatic. I'd go for a larger, faster HD. Mine has 30GB and is constantly being maxed. Plus, a faster HD will also improve performance.

see if you can replace the HD with a 7200 RPM you will probally notice more performance difference with that since you already have 768mb ram

alright I think i'll go with the hard drive upgrade first then. gotta find someone in town to do the upgrade for me.
