Shouldn't PC2100 SODIMMs be compatible with all Dell Pentium M laptops since Dothan cores have a 533MHz FSB (PC2100 speed)? Or does the memory clock run higher than the FSB on these laptops?

Dothan Pentium M cpus and Banias Pentium M cpus BOTH run at 400mhz fsb.
They use the same 855PM chipset which can accept PC2100, PC2700, and PC3200
Though the max speed PC3200 will run at will be PC2700. (333mhz)
Dell is always a rip when it comes to memeory, they put PC2100 (slow) in a lot of 600Ms when it should have been PC2700.

I see. So the memory clock can run async at 333MHz. Does that boost the performance noticably?

You mean even I put a PC3200 ram, the machine with 855PM chipset will still run it at 333mhz? Why? for power saver issue, the machine will automaticly run at this speed or some other reason?
