RAM type

Hi ya,
Is there anyway to know what type of RAM a computer is using or support without open it ? I often asked to update my friend computer. Normally, you think they would know it but most of time they dont !

Typically, if hi-speed is available, I just go to Crucial and check but if it's on dial up or not available then I have to open it up 🙁

Any idea ?
TIA

cpu-z or everest. i think either will tell you the brand, size, and speed of your ram.

But it won't always tell you the brand written on the memory stick. Anyway, performance readings are perfect.
