I think the 2's use 72pin simms that have aprity... I dunno if it uses edo or FPM.

I'm totally in the dark with the 4's and 5's though... I know they have dimm slots... but I dunno what kinda ram will work... somehow I have a feeling my pc66 sdram will not work on the system.

does anyone know what kinda ram these systems use?

SPARCstation 2 uses 30 pin memory. Either 1 megabyte or 4 megabyte. 9 chip parity, not 3 chip parity.

There was a rumor going around that SS 2 would accept 16 megabyte 30 pin. As far as I know, this is false. I've tried, to no avail, running a SS 2 with 16s.

SPARCstation 4 and 5 both use the same type of memory. Accept 8 or 32 MB memory. Such as this memory found here.. Sun part number is 501-2471. About 3 or 4 companies produced aftermarket memory for SS 4/5.

A good reference is Brian Bush's FAQ which can be found here.

James Birdsall's legendary reference is found here. You should have a slight grasp of part numbers to decipher some of it.

Mike Spooner's "The Rough Guide to MBus Modules" is also found on the same page.

Believe it or not, I'm compiling an Open Boot PROM FAQ for Sun SPARCstation 10/20 as well as Ross Hyperstation and SPARCPlug. Probably publish it on the same site as I know the admin. He lives a couple of miles from me.
