RAM troubleshooting

I bought a 512 corsair xms ddr400 c2 for an abit kv8 max 3.

The first stick of ram would freeze my computer after a couple of minutes being on, or instantly when i launched a game. RMA'd it.

Second stick wouldn't let mobo boot up. Only if i have an older ddr266 dimm and the corsair in the second slot. It boots up, works at the lower speed. If i power off my computer for a good 15-30 minutes and reboot it won't read the corsair dimm unless i physically reinstall it.

Updated Bios to latest version, retail products, mobo works with other ram..

simply compability issue?..suggestions plz

According to Corsair, their XMS memory is not compatible with that motherboard. For a list of RAM modules that are compatible, use this tool for Corsair memory (plug in the info for your motherboard and click GO, then scroll to the bottom for a list of all compatible modules), or this tool for Crucial memory (follow the prompts under "Crucial Memory Advisor Tool" then click on the "All Compatible Upgrades" tab to get a list of all compatible memor modules).
